Kennedy apparently collapses at luncheon
By Sasha Issenberg, Globe Staff
WASHINGTON -- Senator Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts collapsed at the congressional luncheon honoring President Obama.
Roy Blunt, the House Minority Leader, said Kennedy left the lunch after suffering an apparent seizure. Kennedy, who is battling brain cancer, was removed in a wheelchair to another room to be treated.
CNN reported that Kennedy was still suffering the seizure when he was taken to another room in the Capitol.

During a talk to members of Congress and others, Obama called attention to Kennedy, saying "I know that while I was out of the room, concerned was expressed about Teddy."
Obama said that Kennedy "was there when the voting rights act passed, along with John Lewis, was a warrior for justice."
"And so I would be lying to you if I did not say that right now a part of me is with him," Obama added. "And I think that's true for all of us. This is a joyous time. But it's also a sobering time. And my prayers are with him and his family and (Kennedy's wife) Vicki.Byrd too is a delicate guy, being old as the hills.
It's a cold, hard day out there.
My thoughts are with them both.
And I think coming in today has been something he has been holding on to do.
No word on Byrd yet.
91 is pretty old to be bopping about in the cold this way.
Hope he's okay.
(Hey, he voted against the war... gave a great speech on it too - I'm a fan.)
They took Kennedy off in an ambulance.
WASHINGTON, Jan 20 (Reuters) - U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy was conscious when he was put into an ambulance after suffering convulsions during a luncheon honoring newly inaugurated President Barack Obama, Sen. Orrin Hatch said on Tuesday.
"It looked like a seizure and it was painful to him," the Utah Republican, a close colleague of Kennedy's, told reporters live on CNN. "But as he gradually was able to calm down ... as he got into the ambulance he kind of looked over at me and smiled that old Irish smile that I know (meant) that things are going to be all right." Today Ive America and Obama in my heart;-)
kisses and peace
Off to find out who Byrd is. The UK media hasn't covered him really, unlike Kennedy who is semi-well known.
Senator from West Virginia.
He was in the Senate when they voted for the Tonkin Golf resolution, giving Johnson war powers in Viet Nam, on the basis of falsified intelligence.
So when the Gulf War stuff rolled around he was right on top of it, basically saying "been there, done that."
Also just one of the last great old style orators.
I know that.
.... though doesn't the other one sound so much friendlier, a little scuffle on the way to the club house, perhaps?
When he was a young man, Byrd was involved with the Klan.
He repudiated them years ago.
His career is like a history of the Democratic party in those years.
