Yes.......watching..........*sigh*..........thank you for posting the details; tv is sketchy in spots.
that's SO sad...

During a talk to members of Congress and others, Obama called attention to Kennedy, saying "I know that while I was out of the room, concerned was expressed about Teddy."

Obama said that Kennedy "was there when the voting rights act passed, along with John Lewis, was a warrior for justice."

"And so I would be lying to you if I did not say that right now a part of me is with him," Obama added. "And I think that's true for all of us. This is a joyous time. But it's also a sobering time. And my prayers are with him and his family and (Kennedy's wife) Vicki.
WASHINGTON (AP) - January 20, 2009 (WPVI) -- Sens. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., and Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., have been taken from an inauguration luncheon for President Barack Obama.

Byrd too is a delicate guy, being old as the hills.

It's a cold, hard day out there.
My thoughts are with them both.
Wow, I didn't even realize Kennedy was out and about. I hadn't paid attention but I thought he had still been in pretty serious condition. Yikes.
Update at 3:13 p.m. ET: Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, is a close friend of Kennedy's. He was at the luncheon and told CNN a moment ago that "it was scary," but that he believes Kennedy will be OK.

Yes, he has been coming in to his office.
And I think coming in today has been something he has been holding on to do.

No word on Byrd yet.
91 is pretty old to be bopping about in the cold this way.
Hope he's okay.
(Hey, he voted against the war... gave a great speech on it too - I'm a fan.)
People sitting at Kennedy's table said he appeared to have had a seizure. I'm going in search of more news.
Oh man. :( Bless his heart...
Byrd's aides say he is fine.
They took Kennedy off in an ambulance.

WASHINGTON, Jan 20 (Reuters) - U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy was conscious when he was put into an ambulance after suffering convulsions during a luncheon honoring newly inaugurated President Barack Obama, Sen. Orrin Hatch said on Tuesday.

"It looked like a seizure and it was painful to him," the Utah Republican, a close colleague of Kennedy's, told reporters live on CNN. "But as he gradually was able to calm down ... as he got into the ambulance he kind of looked over at me and smiled that old Irish smile that I know (meant) that things are going to be all right." (Reporting by Jeremy Pelofsky, editing by Howard Goller)

Ted Kennedy is fine! when he was in the ambulance he smiled :-)

Today Ive America and Obama in my heart;-)

kisses and peace
Done more than just being in the office - he's been speaking at Tom Daschle's confirmation hearings. Which is quite something for anyone recovering from a brain tumour to even be up and about. A remarkable man!

Off to find out who Byrd is. The UK media hasn't covered him really, unlike Kennedy who is semi-well known.
Byrd should make for great reading.
Senator from West Virginia.
He was in the Senate when they voted for the Tonkin Golf resolution, giving Johnson war powers in Viet Nam, on the basis of falsified intelligence.
So when the Gulf War stuff rolled around he was right on top of it, basically saying "been there, done that."
Also just one of the last great old style orators.

Ack, Tonkin GUlf.
I know that.
.... though doesn't the other one sound so much friendlier, a little scuffle on the way to the club house, perhaps?
Shall definitely take a look at the weekend! West Virginia is also not high on the average British newspaper's agenda...
My husband just reminded me of one of the things that made Byrd's presence at the inauguration especially poignant.
When he was a young man, Byrd was involved with the Klan.
He repudiated them years ago.
His career is like a history of the Democratic party in those years.
